he development and construction of Rail Baltica regional stations is one of the largest infrastructure projects in the Baltics in the last 100 years. We, BM-projekts, also actively take part in it.

Initially, our work was connected with preliminary study in cooperation with industry professionals. Our colleagues who are familiar with infrastructure, as well as specialists in landscape architecture, actively studied various scenarios on how to organize traffic and the environment in general in places affected by the reconstruction of the railway station and the construction of Rail Baltica road connections, as well as the potential increase of road users depending on the infrastructure changes and train frequency.

The Rail Baltica project envisages connection of Latvia with four other European countries - Poland, Lithuania, Estonia and, albeit indirectly, Finland. This connection could establish a greater demand for the station services, which would gather not only local residents, but also passengers arriving from other countries, therefore the rationality and convenience of the solutions are especially important avoiding contribution to traffic jams, neither among people nor among transports.

Currently, the biggest work is the design of mobility points, which are important components for improving passenger mobility both regionally and on a more global scale. Regional mobility points open up opportunities for the railway traffic development to places where there have been no stations so far, thus making it possible to move faster, more comfortably and safer, which is also more environmentally friendly at the same time. Considering nature-friendliness, it is important to increase the demand for rail transport among the population. That’s why our goal is to make these points convenient to use, not only for local residents, but also for visitors. It is planned to connect mobility points with local public transport route lines, provide convenient long-term car parking, possibility to connect bicycles, etc. When designing, the most convenient ways to develop connections with nearby road networks are also sought, as well as to ensure convenient pedestrian movement, if necessary, by building pedestrian sidewalks, tunnels or overpasses. These and many other are the challenges we face every day in order to be able to develop regional mobility points that include all the components necessary for efficient station operation and passenger comfort.

On the 8th of May 2023 “BM-projekts’’ Ltd. has signed an agreement Nr. SKV-L-2023/261 with Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) for the project "International competitiveness promotion", which is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
